How to place vanishing points by martinacecilia How to place vanishing points by martinacecilia
A little perspective thing I did today. Perspective is a powerful tool to use and people dismiss of it because it looks scary, but it's something really worth spending your time on. It really helps your storytelling if used correctly.
It’s not perfect by any means but perspective is a lot based on the artist own sensibility, I merely offer a starting point.

this is `fox-orian's tutorial I'm talking about [link]

if you want to reblog this on tumblr please use this [link] so I can keep track, thanks! :D

Thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial.  It's exactly what I needed but didn't realize I needed in terms of practicing perspective.

yes but it comes out really awkward, it's better to use a 2 point perspective in that case...

This is wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing this.

I've understood the concept of vanishing points for a long time, but was always hung up on, 'where the hell do I put that blasted dot to make things look right?' If doing observational drawing I can usually find a vanishing point, but it's so much harder to figure things out when you're trying to create your own settings.

So thanks bunches for making things so much clearer :)

wow!
this is the most useful and crisp guide to perspective and itīs usage i have ever seen! (including the thousands of drawing lessons in highschool)

alltho i theoretically knew (meaning i once was tought) almost all of it, you depicted it so impressively and simple, making the step by step development so natural, that i feel this will stick to my head forever!

also i feel i need to draw some skyscrapers from various perspectives now :D

so once more:  your tutorial is fit for absolute beginners aswell as pros who wanna freshen up!

yes, i can understand :D

i hope very much iīll be able to spread your picture a bit cause, as you rightly said, not many people have worked extensively with perspective and it will take a while to get comfy with it. but itīll defilitely pay off!

so if i show people your picture, how should i best credit you? with yor dA account?

By the way, do you happen to know where someone can find a perspective tutorial for non-architectural backgrounds?

yeah but be careful in class, I didn't talk about tons of stuff. I guess it depends on the teacher but they have the tendency to focus only on "how to draw perspective" and not "how to use it". At least mine did up to a certain point, most of those things I've learned myself later....

wow, you have no idea how I really really appreciate this. even in my architectural class doesn't emphasize this much, all they ask is do a vanishing point without telling the actual concept and understanding behind it and how to apply in the illustration.

Actually only a small part of the things I've written here I've learnt in class, mostly are things I've learned out of experience, I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to find out about the subject!
that's certainly a wrong way to teach perspective by the way.
