This is one of the best artworks I had ever seen of Rhaegar and Lyanna. You have no idea how I ship these two. I love how you captured Lyanna's sadness. My theory is that Lyanna was the knight of the laughing tree, and that after Rhaegar found Lyanna under Aerys's command, he took her shield to prove that the mystery knight was truly gone and that way, protecting her from any harm that may befall her from his father's madness.
I'd prefer Rhaegar to Robert too. You can tell a lot of a person when you see them at their lowest. Robert was a good man. He was in love with Lyanna and, though he never recovered from her death, he was a good king. A little selfish and disorganized, but a good king. He was fair (unlike so many others in this series). But he watched while his "son" turned into that $hithead and did nothing! And he wanted to kill Daenarys because she was a Targaryen although she hadn't done anything (yet). He couldn't let go of his hate. Rhaegar might have started a war, but he did it 'cause he wanted Lyanna. I can understand doing something for love and following your heart better than doing something because you just don't want to deal with it or because you cannot let the past go. Who cares who's better looking or stronger. I judge them by their actions.
I don't really think that robert paid that much attention to his son that he actually NOTICED he was turning into a $hithead. Actually I think most of the problems Joffrey has were born for this very reason. But you are assuming that Rhaegar actions were out of love. We don't really know that. For all we know it could have been just lust, or he was just fucked up in the head like his father was, or he had a quarrel with robert and/or the starks and wanted some sort of revenge. In any case in my opinion that's not an excuse to cause destruction to an entire realm and thousands of lives.
XD who, Mr "I want to be a knight because I found a prophecy saying that I should so let's destroy an entire nation and my own family while doing so"?! Nah, I'm sorry. I REALLY can't see the appeal in Rhaegar.
No it's not a problem of prophecy I guess, he was just young and in love with the wife of another one, and he followed his passion instead of his good sense and because of that, it started a war. He was married against his will with Elia of Dorne but loved another woman who was unfortunately not his.
But I'm just finishing "a feast for crows" and so if there is anything new about Rhaegar's motives in the following I don't want to be spoiled ^^
Well at least Rhaegar seemed more handsome, more intelligent and more cultured than Robert who drank all the time and was always going with prostitutes.
Oh yeah! sorry. By the way without spoilering nothing people who seems "perfect" (as in more intelligent and cultured than Robert, as it's stated more than once that robert in his youth was VERY handsome and many had crushes on him, as well as Cersei) makes me suspicious. VERY suspicious. In these books in particular (Remember? Joffrey was a charming blonde beautiful prince at the beginning and the you found out that he was... well. Joffrey.). XD We just have different tastes in men I guess.
